Red county turning blue
Sun Aug 03, 2008 at 01:08:07 AM PDT
San Bernardino County is the largest geographical county in the US. It has been reliably red since, well, forever. Bush won this county 55 to 43 in 2004.
But look at the headline article in Saturday's paper! Here Come the Dems
Cherry red San Bernardino County is within 1,330 registrations away from becoming a blue county! Figure that only a few years ago, GOP registrations outnumbered Democratic registrations by 33,000 across the county.
I'm posting this late at night so it won't push a substantial diary off the page, but I just wanted to gloat a bit.
Good news, eh?
Buh-bye, Trent Lott

Trent Lott is officially outta here.
Gov. Barbour is attempting to skirt Mississippi law by appointing a successor to serve until the November election. Let's hope that Attorney General Jim Hood will be able to enforce the Mississippi constitution and require a special election within 100 days as mandated.

DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS DIARY. RECOMMEND THE ONE AND ONLY MOTHERSHIP.
This is the 19th in a series of diaries intended to provide information regarding the California wildfires to those who most need it.
The DKos community is providing extraordinary coverage of the California Fires. What makes this site different from the TM bubbleheads is that community members are giving real time information regarding evacuations and fire locations.
Thanks for enlisting. Now buy your own uniform.

One of my colleagues at work has a son in the Army. Here is his story about how the military takes care of GIs in Iraq.
About 6 months ago, my colleague was upset. I asked him what was wrong and he said that he had just received a call from his son in Iraq and learned that his boots were worn out and he would be needing new boots. He needed his father (my friend) to buy him new boots and have them sent to Iraq because the Army would not provide replacement boots. My friend was pissed. What is it with the Army that they won't provide basic needs for troups in a war zone? Furthermore, he told me that in the 18 months that his son was in Iraq, he had been required to buy at least $5000 in basic equipment for his son. Basic stuff - boots, goggles, jackets, etc. because the Army wouldn't provide it or provided only equipment of poor quality.
Finally, his son's enlistment was up and he came home. That was 6 weeks ago. I asked my friend, are you sure it's over? Oh yes, he said. Finally, my son is out.
B-1 Bob for President?
Wed Nov 15, 2006 at 09:51:35 PM PDT
According to the Union Leader, B-1 Bob Dornan
is considering a run for president. His issue with the GOP frontrunners? They're all divorced. "I can't stand the thought of my party having its three front-runners three open adulterers, Newt Gingrich, Giuliani, and McCain." Dornan is a conservative Catholic who doesn't believe in divorce. His other hot-button issue? Homosexuality. He calls it a "cancer in [his] party."
The Freeper discussion about this is a scream.
Statehood for DC
Thu Nov 09, 2006 at 01:30:21 PM PDT
As was written most eloquently by GlitterT in
this diary, residents of our nation's capital have no voting representation in Congress.
Now that we have a Democratic Congress, this is the best time to address that problem. More importantly, if now now, when? It will never happen when either house of Congress is in GOP hands because, well, you know.

Democratic win in Red California: Inland Empire
Wed Feb 08, 2006 at 10:58:31 AM PDT
Some small hope in Red California?
San Bernardino is Red, Red California. It's also one of America's most corrupt cities with constant kickback scandals in city management and a very high crime rate.
Ahnuld is REALLY pissing off his remaining base now
Wed Nov 30, 2005 at 10:20:39 AM PDT
According to the LA Times, he is about to appoint Susan Kennedy (no relation, apparently) as his new chief of staff, replacing Republican Patricia Clarey, who was one of his first appointments.
Ms Kennedy is not only a Democrat, but claims to be "Democrat to the core" in a recent interview. She was a high-ranking aide to Gray Davis and worked for Phil Angelides who is running against Ahnuld.
And, if you are a Convervative Republican, it gets worse.
She's an abortion rights activist and a Lesbian who strongly promotes same-sex marriages.
Says Mike Spence, president of the California Republican Assembly: "She embodies everything I have spent my life opposing. There is a list of things now where it appears we would have been better off if Gray Davis were governor." (OMG!)
Great article. Read it here.
Bush's Itinerary for today's trip to AZ and CA
Mon Aug 29, 2005 at 08:26:07 AM PDT
After
his visit to the seniors of Arizona in the morning, he will be arriving at Ontario Airport in the "early afternoon". After that, he will be traveling to
Rancho Cucamonga to chat with a hand-picked audience. The topic is supposed to be the Medicare drug plan.
Here is the article in the San Bernardino Sun, titled (OMG!) "Bush Arrives At Last". The location is the James L. Brulte Senior Center.
According to the article, the crowd is preselected to be supportive.
Can we change that?
After Rancho Cucamonga, he will go to San Diego where he will await tomorrows 60th anniversary of the Japanese surrender celebration at the North Island Naval Air Station where he will give a speech.
Update on Bush Traveling to California
Thu Aug 25, 2005 at 09:53:36 AM PDT
According to
this article in today's San Bernardino Sun, the Preznit is going to be in Rancho Cucamonga on Monday. It's a "secret", so details are necessarily vague. But rumors have it that he will be talking to an "invitation only" audience at the James T. Brulte Senior Center (11200 Base Line Road, Rancho Cucamonga).
Here is the web page for the Senior Center.
I like the questions that the seniors have for the Prez:
"Could you bring down the gas prices, Mr. President? I don't make it to the senior center as often as I'd like with the price of gas these days."
"I don't like this No Child Left Behind policy because so many children have already been left behind. Maybe the president could create a No Parents Left Behind policy to get this country on track."
And my personal favorite senior question:
"When will (you) be vacating (your) office?"
You think these seniors may find their invitation gets lost in the mail?
Bush to visit with families of dead soldiers
Wed Aug 24, 2005 at 09:43:03 AM PDT
We were wrong. Bush is not on vacation, according to
this article in my local paper. He is away from the White House because the West Wing is being renovated. Right.
His NotOnVacationPalooza Tour has gone through Salt Lake City, is now in Idaho, will go on to Arizona and may come to the Inland Empire later this week. (That's San Bernardino, Riverside, et al). Why is he coming to my town?
Why, to visit with relatives of dead soldiers! It says so right in the paper.
They are really getting scared. Finding excuses for being away from the White House for a shameful five weeks, and trying to find friendly Dead Soldiers' relatives. Does he have no shame? No shame at all? Geez.
Californians and Desert Denizens, if I get more information about the Preznit's schedule, I'll post it to this thread. We really need to follow the fine example of Salt Lake City and give him a nice California welcome.
